I’ve just bought my wife a 6 year old Boxster with black leather. The cars generally a little grubby so it needs a really good interior clean. The seats aren’t stained or badly marked but they are shiny which I think is generally a sign of dirt and grime. Without buying yet more car cleaning products could I use a weak solution of APC or other general cleaner to clean them safely?

You should be fine with APC, I've used it on all of my cars leathers without issue. Check the bottle to make sure it doesn't highlight and issue and test a small hidden bit to see.

Ok thanks. I’ve got some Bilt Hamber Surfex water based APC so I’ll give that a go.

I’ve found pears soap to be really good for cleaning leather and it’s cheap as chips. I think it’s it’s better than some of the so called leather cleaners.

Then you must try Imperial Leather. According to my late MIL that’s what they supplied the morgues with to wash the bodies.
