Winter washing of the car
Discussion
Yup; but 'contactless'
- So pre rinse on wheels & lower quarters; and applied to the wheel arches too
- Wheels & tyres cleaned, rinsed along with the wheel arches
- Snow foam the car - let it dwell & then rinse
- Towel dry the glass and wheels
- Treat the tyres & glass; towel dry all the door shuts & boot lid/tailgate shuts etc
Done
I do that just to keep the road grime to a minimum; I try not to wash it properly unless it absolutely needs it!

Does anyone else still wash their car at home even when the outside temps are less than desirable, or do you take it down to the local wash and scratch?
Generally just use BH Surfex HD at 10% as it's more effective than snow foam at clearing winter grime. Then jet wash off and leave it at that.I haven't washed mine for months, would normally do it myself every month or 2 during winter but we're still on a hosepipe ban in Yorkshire so I haven't washed it since July. I've been to the local car wash place once since then which normally I wouldn't go near, the only alternative is a local detailer who would do a maintenance wash for £50 but it's hard to stomach this time of year when it'll be dirty again within a few miles .

I did yesterday. The snow foam froze on the drive I tried to sweep it up and it shattered. Road still looks like it's covered in fake snow as temps haven't been above freezing since.
Car was covered in salt so I wanted to get that off as a priority.

Yorkshire Water quietly lifted the hosepipe ban last week. Not that it's possible to use the hosepipe at the moment anyway because it's full of ice.....Garett said:

No we're not. BBC News - Yorkshire Water hosepipe ban lifted after three months

Yes, I always wash my own cars and I'll do them at pretty much any temperature.
I cleaned my Saab on Friday and the CL on Saturday. It was cold but warm water in the buckets, warm the car up first, rinse the frost off and crack on. Only thing to be mindful of is where water runs. Luckily I have gravel so it soaks away, on tarmac surface it could be pretty lethal! haha

Hosepipe ban was lifted on 6th December.I have been meaning to clean mine since its been lifted but I am too lazy and old to go out in the cold and do it, not been washed since July same as your car.

The third option is not to wash the thing at all . I choose that one
I've had my car 18 months, and washed it twice. I'm certainly not doing it in the middle of winter It still had glue residue on it where factory applied foam protective strips had been. So much for a PDI.

When I had no drive I'd always take the car to the do it yourself car washes. I now have and will bucket, sponge and powerhose. But I've had cars I care more about than others so I'll admit in some cases an MOT wash is all they ever got.
