Beyond Economical repair IMO.

Take it out for a drive and concentrate on whether it feels the same and listen for any unusual noises. Possibly a good candidate to take the payout, buy back the salvage and get it repaired at a lower cost yourself if you like the car and have the inclination, especially if the suspension isn’t damaged.

Yeah, I’ve just done a used car valuation and £3k came back, I’d say it’s touch and go whether they’ll right it off.

That would require a complete rear quarter panel.
Parts , labour, paint would write it off. It may not look too bad but there's a lot of work repairing that to pre accident damage..

It's already at the garage, they have said there is damage to the front and rear suspension but nothing untoward and they want to repair it.
Thanks for the advice though it's something I will defo consider if they do decide to write it off

Exactly my thoughts at the time. The body shop said it's in the "amber zone" can't get an answer from the insurance yet, guess I'll just have to wait all weekend

Surprised by that for a couple of reasons.

Expect the insurance company to write it off IMO. The body shop aren’t really supposed to have any say in the matter, although they do get to prepare the estimate…

Will be Category N.

Thanks for that, had to make a new account as was limited to 5 posts as I'm new.
The estimator rang me and said all the damage he had found including front and rear suspension damage. He said he has passed it onto the insurance company.
I'd be surprised if the impact caused suspension damage but I've only owned the car since February and it had a full mot with no advisories.
I've also spent 3k having the head gasket, timing chain and rocker cover replaced.
Not a great week to quit smoking

2k for head gasket and timing chain, 750 for rocker cover and oil pump replacement. It was going to be over a grand but they knocked the labour off.
Too much to be spending on the car I know but it was that or scrap it

How did they get damaged? Those prices seem pretty nuts to me.

The threads not about that, let’s not drag OP over the coals after their misfortune.

Good luck quitting smoking OP!

Then oil pump another 200 odd, however much head gasket is, remove engine, labour, vat ....
The point is all these big jobs have already been done on this car.
If I buy another I may well have to do them again. If the insurance have to put me back in the same position I'm already in just paying out the value of the car dosnt seem fair as I'll be in a worse situation

Does the door open and shut alright?
What "Suspension Damage" have they said there is? I don't know the setup of your particular car but the major suspension components will be pretty robust (while the thin sheet metal body, as you've seen, isn't!) So hopefully nothing too serious is damaged.

Probably best to get the money and keep the car if the insurance will let you...

And if they do decide to write it off, expect the first offer to be pathetic! Have a look at similar age/spec/mileage cars for sale now (or recently sold) so you have some evidence to argue with.
