A relative is looking at a used car and has found one they like but there is a slightly odd mark on the door paint, almost like a thin run mark or something solvent based has been spilt on it and made a mark underneath. It didn't wipe of with a soft cloth. Any ideas from the PH brain as to what it may be?It's not massive noticeable but curious if it could indicate something underlying.

Thanks

That’s where the front half of one car was welded to the back half of another biggrin

Can you feel it? Are you sure it’s not just a water mark from water coming out of the wing mirror (looks like the front passenger door?)

water spotting.. in hard water areas you get that a lot. Car gets washed, residual water runs out and leaves a mark. It wipes off with a detailer etc but a cloth won't take it out.

It does look like a stubborn water mark. Koch Chemie FSE will remove it if it is water. If it’s something nastier five minutes with a machine polished will remove it. If it’s some easier nastier and it’s gone through the clear coat then you’re looking at a respray.

I’d start with the FSE. Give it a quick spray, leave it for ten seconds then try wiping off.

That needs stripping back to bare metal and given a complete windows out repaint, it's the only way to be sure..

It does look like a harsh chemical may have done it.
