The paintwork is falling off our trusty Hyundai.

It's a low mileage 8 yr old car owned from new. Now just used for tatting about, part time voluntary work, dogs, tools, unmade forest tracks, and rarely does more than 100 miles in an outing.

Lives outside, the panels aren't showing signs of corrosion so must be galvanised.

If have local repairs carried out, how satisfactory will they be, likewise a cheap respray? Likely to be durable?

I'm not in the mood to spend heaps and loads, cosmetics don't worry me but I'd like to keep it just because it's useful.

I think more paint is likely to fall off, the problems started about 3 yrs ago and I'm (rightly or wrongly) blaming it on a car wash i used.

To repair or not to repair that is the question?

Have you contacted Hyundai, it still might be covered under warranty if the paint is original?

I haven't, only part Hyundai history and not all paint is original (muntjac related damage)
Although the repainted front seems to have stayed stuck to the primer.

I'd anticipate short shrift from Hyundai.

It's got to be worth asking the question though?!

Hyundai are unsurprisingly denying any problems. However several reports re Hyundai white paint peeling on the internet, all look similar to mine.

That looks like the results of too high pressure and not enough water volume from a pressure washer jet held too close to the paint, possibly after aggressive (cheap?) chemicals applied.
Have you used a roadside car wash set up, that's where my suspicion would lie, its the stripped sections near the windows and door handles which make me think of this, someone blasting moss and accumulated grit out the nooks and crannies.

Some get carried away with pressure washers, even some commercial vehicle paints get blown off in patches like this.

My thoughts too, I always hand wash my cars. The only time at a carwash place was jan 2020, problems didn't become apparent until 2021.

I'll probably have the door painted and touch up the rest

theres no way a jet washer would cause that amount of damage to normal car paint

short of bare metalling the whole car and a proper repaint i dont see how a patch up will last , if they spot repair that bit it will lift up elsewhere and take the new paint with it
