Very old sticker restoration
Discussion
Hi everyone,
Hopefully someone might be able to help on this.
I bought a set of stickers that I have lucked into while doing a project. If don't know if they are genuine race team items but they are certainly from the period
I am planning to actually use them as stickers and therefore I have a couple of questions for any experts on here.
1.) I know I can't get them totally restored to factory fresh and I think some of the patina on them actually adds to look I want for the project but they have some spots of 'residue' that looks like they have been close to adhesives from other stickers and I was wondering what I can use to wipe them down without damaging the actual sticker.
2.) I am totally paranoid about actually removing the backing paper without damaging the sticker itself. Is there a way to remove the backing paper and then what glue would I use to actual apply them as I doubt 45 year old glue will probably be all that sticky?
Any help gratefully received!

If you have a body shop nearby pop in ask or buy a bottle of their spirit wipe. Fantastic stuff just takes glue tar etc straight off.
I think you’re right the glue on the stickers will be useless now. Not sure what I’d use maybe watered down pva? Anyway the spirit wipe should work on the sticky side too.
What are you applying them to?

Thanks for your advise about the spirit wipe, I shall check that out. I think you’re right the glue on the stickers will be useless now. Not sure what I’d use maybe watered down pva? Anyway the spirit wipe should work on the sticky side too.

I am hopefully putting them onto painted fibreglass.
