Hydro-dipping - not carbon fibre effect?
Discussion
My trimmer has suggested hydro-dipping some of my interior plastics, to break up the leather and alcantara. Seems like a good idea, but I'm not completely sold on the faux carbon fibre effect. I mean, I like it aesthetically, I'm just not sure how I feel about the fakery.
I know they do loads of different effects, but most of them look a bit wacky - like the horrible wheels on the Wheeler Dealers RX-7.
Has anyone seen any attractive hydrodip finishes for interior components which are neither fake carbon nor look like a hideous waistcoat lining?

I've had a look and seen some very nice metallic finishes, so I was considering one of them.
I then took a step back and asked myself why I had a problem with fake carbon reinforced plastic but not with fake metal!
I think I'm going to go ahead with the fake CF, but just not overdo it.

It's for the Elise. So I'm looking at these areas, with everything else being leather or alcantara (not a photo of my car, but basically the same)
Having been back to talk to the trimmer today (and driven my car home with half the interior missing ) we're going to go for the high gloss carbon effect on the vertical panels left and right and on the bit on the heater controls in the middle of the dash. I don't want the bit under the windscreen to be high gloss because of reflections, so he's going to see if the dipper can do that in a satin or matt finish carbon. Otherwise, it will just be cleaned up.
The cabin will still have a fair bit of exposed real aluminium, so I have moved away from the idea of a metallic finish on the plastic. I have got over my sniffiness about fake carbon, given that I was willing to consider fake metal!
It now looks like this;

I did. We decided that mixing matt and gloss wouldn’t work, so I had the bit under the windscreen done in gloss. Was a bit worried about reflections but it was fine.
