Woke up this morning to a rather nasty sight - looks like someone jumped on the roof of my civic

(the big dent popped out with a light push on the rooflining, but there are a few smaller ones left)

I've gone to a Honda bodyshop and they want to cut out the roof and replace it totally - seems a bit extreme!

I was wondering if anyone can recommend any particular dent removal company - worst case, the roof is going to be cut out anyway, and I'd prefer not to have to claim on my insurance so it sounds worth a try.

Thanks!

Absolute w*nkers - they should be tied up in a burlap sack and beaten with cabbages.

Any Paw prints on the roof? Not all damage done to cars is Humans....though I agree it's most likely!

A dent that size would be a bloody big moggy! Unless one of the neighbours has a Bengal Tiger they let out at night?

Dent Wizard are coming round on Tuesday. I'll let everyone know how they get on.

Fingers most definitely crossed - I went to the local Honda garage and their solution is to *CUT THE ENTIRE ROOF PANEL OUT, FIT A NEW ONE, AND RESPRAY IT*. Whoah, there's a slight case of overbombing, to steal a Sisters of Mercy title.

Unsuprisingly, their quote for making a mountain out of a molehill is ~£1,700. I don't particularly want to claim if I can help it as I've got insurance on 3 cars to consider

I guess I'll see how DW do, and if they screw it up - well, no loss as Honda want to put a whole new roof in. *sigh*.

Couldn't see foot *or* pawprints on the dust on the car. It's either a freak vanishing meteorite or aliens.

Whilst you may think that a new roof is overkill, in many cases it is the only course of action for a large damaged area on a roof.

A number of factors come into play.
1) Your dent has gone across a roof support truss.
2) The roof is the only panel on a car at eyesight level meaning *any* imperfections are easily spotted.
3) Your car is black, possibly the worst colour for highlighting panel imperfections
4) Folks believe that in the 21st century that we can miracle away a large dent. Unfortunately we still use dollies, hammers and filler. That metal on the roof has stretched, there is no way we can regain the tautness of the skin. (Heat can help but on such a large area - no way)

Dent Wizard/Chips-Away/Dent Devil etc are fine for small car parking dents, but the big stuff is best left to the professionals. We do quite a lot of rectification work where a "Dent Devil" person has actually made a repair worse!

Sorry to see that damage....

I had some roof damage to mine, when a kitchen cupboard that was up on the wall of my garage decided that it would rather collapse and empty it's contents all over my car...

Honda suggested the same with a new roof panel, which I though was nuts as well.. I got dent magician to come round, and although it's not perfect (apparently the paint can crack if they manipulate the area too much) - It takes a really close look to notice it, and even then you can only see it in some lights. The best part was that it only cost me a nifty...

Hope all goes well.
