Evening all,

Quite new here, but looking for some advise. I've never changed alloys on my car before and now that the tyres are shot, I thought I'd improve the look of the car.

Audi A6 2004 Avant - old shape
Current: 16x7 ET45 215/55
Proposed: 18x8.5 ET32 235/40

Would this proposed choice work on this car? Any good websites that could advise me - the seller assures me that its all fine, naturally. Any other views?

Cheers

You need to check the offset and the caliper clearance.

That change increases the rolling diameter so the speedo reading will be affected, so will the gearing. In order to avoid this affect you would need to go to a much lower ratio, which will affect the cost of tyres, and the ride quality and handling you get. Those wheels and tyres are significantly wider so you will need to check for clearance on the bodywork and suspension through the full range of steering and suspension travel. Unless you trust the seller to refund your money and repair the damage if they don't fit, the onus is on you to ensure that they do actually fit. I suspect what the seller is saying amounts to no more than that the bolt pattern is right for your hubs.

Thanks all, great advise.

I got some details from Audi as well so intend to work within there guidelines - as opposed to alloy wheel retailers..
