Tyre recommendations for 18" alloys?
Monday 18th September 2006
Not strictly suspension or brakes but this appears to be the most relevant place for a tyre question? The girlfriend has just bought a set of alloys for her New Beetle (purely for aesthetics). It's only a 1.6 and she's not a spirited driver so can anyone recommend a budget tyre brand that won't cost her the earth but are good quality? The majority of branded tyres (who's name I recognise) in the size she needs (225-40-18) are all well over £100 each? Can anyone recommend a good sub-£100 brand?
Thanks.

Yokohama tend to be quite cheap, try the AVS dB. If you're getting quotes from kwik fit and the like then you'll struggle on price. Try online such as mytyres.co.uk for a good price then get them fitted locally.

Thanks for the recommendation, mytyres have some reasonable prices. I'm looking at 4 Falkens on there @ the minute. It's not a name i recognise? They appear to be Japanese and the write ups look OK, anyone ever tried them?

Just warn her, especially at this time of year, of the increased tendency to aquaplane with wider tyres.
