Hi,
I have a 2019 Mazda CX-5 with 45,000 miles. About two months ago, I started hearing a clunking noise from the front passenger side whenever I go over potholes or rough roads. Smooth speed bumps are fine.

Today, I replaced both drop links, hoping they were the issue, but the problem persists.

I watched some YouTube videos on how to check whether the top suspension mount is in good condition, and it seems like there is excessive movement in my top mount.
Could this be the cause of the clunking noise?

Thank you!

No, worn top mounts could not possibly cause that clunking noise. /s

Doesn't the question kinda answer itself?

Have you checked the springs are not broken?

Could be a multitude of things on a car that age.

Was worn console bushes on my old Golf causing clunking over rough roads. Just have to be methodical and look at all the bits of your suspension step by step.

Depends what you call clunking but in my experience they can make a sound similar to a worn out droplink.
I have gone through this recently on an Audi A3, just decided i was going to do the front pair for what it cost me and it was only evident on removal some slight play in one.

I had a similar problem recently and the engine mount had sheared. You had to raise the engine to see it. Only happened under hard acceleration though. The top mount sounds ok in the video (to me).
