This happens with any online sales, but online tyre places seem the worst by a country mile.

You go on their site, see the tyres you want. IN STOCK in green, perhaps with even a quantity that they ostensibly are holding. And they don’t actually have any.

This has happened to me several times over the past few years, and all the “big boys” seem to do it. I’ve currently got a set of fronts sat in the dining room, but no rears (staggered). Currently owed back £600 in refunds from two retailers who sold me tyres that they don’t have, and potentially a third who assured me over the phone that they had them but so far no notification of despatch, tracking etc so another £300 down.

I could send the fronts back and try and get a different brand, but the original company who sent me the fronts and failed to send rears as they didn’t actually have them want £25 to return them, despite it being their fault.

Why oh why do they do this? Utterly infuriating. Crap rant, I know.

(No I’m not mixing brands front and rear before anyone suggests a different brand rear. It would do my head in).

It's largely a brexit dividend. The tyres are sitting in the EU and it takes time to get them through customs and into UK, probably on a batched basis to limit the bureaucracy pain.

So for your tyres they are probably sitting in an EU warehouse and the vendor is waiting for some more UK orders of the same tyre before they send over a batch.

On of the biggest online firms is based in Edinburgh and owned by Michelin. I use them all the time and don't have any issues normally.

Is it an odd make/size?

+1, works for me.

I guess 'fitting included' may be a little more money, but it's always ended up with my car having four new tyres of the spec I've chosen, and not too old.

Mytyres is based in Germany, and stock often gets stuck at customs since Brexit.

If that is true, they shouldn't be listing them as "in stock" to UK customers when they aren't.

We use black circles for all of ours as it only displays tyres that are actually in stock.

I'm not sure what you mean by "If that is true". Mytyres.co.uk is the UK subsidiary of Delticom AG. It's a German company based in Hanover. Their corporate page is https://www.delti.com/en

On their delivery and payment ( https://www.mytyres.co.uk/delivery-and-payment.htm... ) page they have this line:
"Please note: Due to Brexit regulations, an increased delivery time must be expected. We ask for your understanding & do our best to deliver your tires to you as soon as possible."

On their FAQ page ( https://www.mytyres.co.uk/FAQs/delivery.html ) under the "Do you offer overseas delivery" page they say
"Delivery: We dispatch tyres from a warehouse in Germany, not from Britain. Shipments are first forwarded to our intermediary air freight warehouse in Germany, which normally takes only few days to arrive. Then we dispatch them with a carrier of choice to your country and provide you with tracking information."

I've used Kwik Fit online the last couple of times I've needed new tyres. 0 issues with them and never needed more than a couple of days to arrive.

It's not just tyre companies.

I ordered a watch that was allegedly in stock nearly two weeks ago, should have been with me by the end of that week. Nearly two weeks on I've had no dispatch notification and not even an email explaining the delay.

Thankfully eBay have refunded me and I've left crappy feedback.

I more meant the comment "often stuck in customs since Brexit". It just says there is an increased delivery time which means they know the timescales. No reason for them to be stuck in customs if the paperwork is correct, not like its a new thing now.

It's the run up to Christmas - online sellers and delivery companies are slammed.

Ordered 2 tyres from Oponeo on Tues evening 17th Dec. Got a notification when I got to work on Thu 19th that APC were delivering and that I was the 35th delivery. Normally I still a post it on the door telling them to throw the tyres over the side gate into the back garden, so it was a failed delivery but I'm collecting them today from depot. Always always been impressed with Oponeo.

MyTyres/Delti Group - sack o' crap in comparison.

They will be in stock, just shipping takes more time.

Unfortunately, that isn't always the case though.

Frequently places "pool stock" such that there may be 10 sellers all claiming the same stock, each will then distribute them between sites as they are ordered.

This is OK until there is a few orders for the same tyres & suddenly nobody has stock.

This is what I think has happened in my case. The place I ordered these tyres from is one of the German companies who is a “leader” in “tyres” (Geddit?) but the tyres that have arrived came next day, and came from Eden Tyres in the UK. Nobody in the Uk obviously has the rears 245/35/18 by the way - the choice in all seasons is very limited if you want matching 225/40/18s on the front axle.

One of the UK places recommended above once took my money and then I found they hadn’t got nor could supply the tyres. It’s such an arse.

The delays are due to Brexit, you might not like to admit that but it's the truth, delays are thing, all because of Brexit.

The chaos we see at Dover every summer shows you the impact and those delays have nothing to do with having the correct paperwork and everything to do with the increased red tape that Brexit gave us.
