At what point is disc wear a mot failure? My front discs are down too 10 mm (original discs) but the pads are original but are only half worn , the last mot said they were worn but not dangerously worn . I have a new set to go on but just wondering , I don’t remember having any other car where the discs wear out before the pads.

10mm would be extremely thing for any road car. So perhaps elaborate as to what vehicle this is.

And generally brake performance, less so condition is what is tested, as there are limitations as to what a person can do during any brief inspection.

But usually it isn't difficult to make an educated observation as to whether a disc is crap or not.

When you can see it...nobody here can see it.

Doh , just measured the new ones that are 28mm , not sure i got 10mm from they can’t be 10mm . I need to get the wheel off and check them, 10mm must have been from the gt86, I’ve done all of them recently.

if you look on mintex brakebook or blueprint website it will tell you what the minimum thickness of the brake disc should be, usually rear ones are 10mm new and 8mm minimum on my car.

Thanks for that info, its the rears i was thinking of , from new they are 12mm but worn out at 10.5 mm, doesn’t seem much between new to knackered.

It's 17% (ish) seems fair to me. And on rear discs that will take a good few miles.

And if its the first time the rear discs have been changed that's good going.
