Hi looking for advice 2015 Qashkai had a free mot with Nissan feel like I was robbed, need front coil springs doing quoted £950!

Elsewhere I can get done around 400, however some garages are saying they won’t replace front coil springs without doing the strut mounts?

Are the strut mounts required to be replaced aswell even if they are in good conditon? Car is driving smooth, no knocking noises, or swaying etc,

Thanks

It may be worth getting a second opinion to see whether the springs even need changing.

Yeah that’s what I have been thinking , however where it’s failed the MOT I’m not sure if other garages are going to want to mot it? Still has weeks mot left.

Why wouldn’t they want to MOT it? As far as I’m aware, as long as you’re prepared to pay the cost of the test , they’re prepared to test it.

Yeah just I’m getting mixed opinions from garages about replacing strut mounts even if they’re in good nick?

In the past few years coil replacement has become far commoner as a result of poorer quality springs ( weight saving?) and the proliferation of annoying humps and bumps in the roads. On no occasion have I been asked to replace the struts as well. One was replaced because the top bearing was worn but that was incidental as the springs were ok.

Nobody is asking him to replace the struts, just the springs and top mounts.

Which depending on age etc etc...is perfectly sensible and reasonable.

If he is prepared to have the thing taken apart on the premise of not doing them, and when it's in pieces and it is found they too are scrap, and takes 3 days to get the parts which the OP is willing to pay for when the vehicle is stuck on their ramp...up to him

Replacing for preventative maintenance is a sensible route regardless.

Often trying to keep a car roadworthy so things do not fail....is lost on many.
