Took the motor to Mazda for a service and MOT.

The did the service, then told me it would fail if it were to have an MOT because the " Drop link is insecure " and they advice replacing it asap.
They wanted £150 to replace one drop link.. no chance.

So did the logical thing and took it to my local indy for the MOT and got them to replace both of the front ones ( with genuine parts ) just for good measure for cheaper than it would cost just for the one at mazda.

I know a fair bit about cars but I fail to see why it would fail ? I asked Mazda what exactly was wrong with it, i.e is there any play in it ? And they told me no, but it needs to be replaced because the plastic has come off.

Upon inspection, there is no obious play compared to any other drop link I've seen, there is also no tears in the boot i.e leaking grease.

So not sure why Mazda would think it would be an MOT fail !

Thanks

1st rule of MoTs is never use a main dealer. I would also extend that to do not use a main dealer unless you have a brand new car.

Take it somewhere else for the MoT.

Can't help with your specific question.

yeah good advice. This is what I did, I took it to an independent instead and they did it for a fraction of the price.

With any luck that might solve the "knock" you were getting.

haha, I wish.

Probably not as the links in question above are from the front of the car, not the rear where the mysterious untraceable clunk comes from.. ( There are other Mazda owners who are completely baffled by this who have very similar issues regarding clunking noises when everything looks spot on )
