Van Suspension MOT Query
Discussion
Hi,
I have started doing my own mechanical work and enjoying it, including MOT repairs. I have a 2013 Renault Master van and the recent MOT had an advisement of "McPherson strut pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement - offside front top mount". What exactly is this please?
I have googled mcpherson strut, but is the worn part the pin that comes out of the actual damper and the damper needs to be replaced or is it the rubber bush that goes into the strut mount in inner wing?
Thanks

MoT wording has become awfully vague where, for 0.0001% more effort, it could actually be helpful... part of the problem is the tick-box list of phrases, but the examiner can always add his own script...
eg the above, and they commonly use this line for a wishbone, which can have bushes and a 'pin' (by which they mean the shaft of a ball-joint btw)... so which is it?
And on brake discs with 'corrosion, distortion or damage'... well, which one is it?, Mr Examiner You've seen it. You've noted it. You've chosen the tick-box. SO WHICH OF THE ABOVE WILDY DIFFERENT STATES IS IT IN?

TwinKam and VintageJock - thanks for replies. Yes I agree on wording being ambiguous. The other MOT advisory concerned the front drivers brake pipe and stated "it was corroded or covered in grease". When I looked quickly myself I could see it was corroded so whats with the "covered in grease"??!!
