Hi all

I dont like the low profile tyres that seem to get fitted on every car these days.

Was wondering, if say I bought a skoda octavia VRS and the wheel/tyre size was something like 225/40ZR18

the 225 is the tyre width. the 40 is the % of the width the tyre profile is? R18 is speed rating.

So could I get the wheels and tyres off say a skoda octavia 1.2tsi 205/55R16 for instance and swap them over? (although presumably Id need 225 width wheels/tyres still?)

So long as the diameter of the wheel and tyre remained the same and any offset was the same would there be any real issue? Apart from me not kerbing the alloys every time I parked.

In short could I swap from a 40 low profile tyre to a 60 profile tyre (with appropriate wheel size change as well)

Thanks all, hope the query makes sense

Getting the smaller wheels to fit over the brakes will be the biggest issue - often with the more performance cars you find that you have very little room.

Tools such as https://tiresize.com/calculator/ will let you compare different sized tyres.

https://www.wheel-size.com/ will tell you the standard and optional sizes for your car, plus some aftermarket sizes that fit.

The biggest issue will be fitting over brake calipers.

R18 is not the speed rating.

In short though the answer to your question is yes.

Often the tyre pressure sticker on the car shows a range of possible tyre sizes (including winter tyres), that is a good place to start to see what other size tyres are suitable.
