My tyre of choice back in the day was the Yokohama Parada Spec 2, sadly long since discontinued. Is there anything similar around nowadays?

Doesn't need to work in the wet particularly, but good dry weather grip is important. Nankang AR-1 looks the part, but I don't know anyone who has actually used them.

Any other alternatives please?

What sizes are you looking for? Nankang ar1s are a pretty serious track tyre... along with toyo r888r. Nankang ns2rs, accelera 651 sports, zestino gredge are budget track tyres. Yokohama ad08rs too.

Otherwise its decent road tyres, michelin pilot sport 4S or 5, gy eagle assy6 or supersports, whatever the latest continental is.

Which part of the world are you in?
I've had Cup2 s in a 718 spyder and found the difficult to keep temp in so the grip drops off.
I have MPS4S on a McLaren and they get used all year round in the UK.

It might depend on the car and what size tyres it requires. Goodyear F1 Super Sport, Michelin PS4S, Bridgestone Potenza Sport.... Goodyear F1 Supercar, Michelin Cup2, Bridgestone RE71RS....

PS4S are 90% of cup or specialist tyres in the best UK conditions, but a hell of a lot better in the changeable conditions we usually have.

Michelin do rate it as suitable for occasional track use as well.

I’m in the UK. 205/40R17 but for fair weather/summer use only.

Do you have experience with any of these? There is quite a range there in terms of price. Accelera I thought were basically dirchfinders and I’ve never heard of Zestino. I’ve not had a track car in 10+ years so I don’t really know what’s good these days.

What car is it? The weight matters a lot when choosing the right tyre.

I'd echo something like ps4.

I used to run 48r on my Westfield, then Kumho equivalents on my Evo.

The issue with these sorts of tyres are you need to get a lot of heat into them so they're progressive when they break away. The 48s were lovely on track after half a lap, but on the road very spikey, unless you drove like it was a special stage.

Evo now on Goodyear and will be Ps4 next set.

Most fun I had in the westy was on scrapyard sourced xr2 Pepperpots on budget old tyres. Not a lot of grip, but beautiful profession into oversteer.

Do they? Unless you're really slow in a very light car I don't see it not cooking after 2 laps. It's a road tyre with soft sidewalls.

OP, perhaps consider a Yoki AD08 or AD09, its replacement.

Nankangs have been around for a while. A mate runs then on his elise and rates them highly, and a mate races them on his rx8, and again rates highly. I tried acceleras as a very cheap tyre (like, £48 each in a 205 17 tyre when on sale) and, they were surprisingly ok, especially given how cheap they are.

Havent tried zestinos, but heard ok thing on the m3 forums, so will give them a go next i think.

Problem is, all these tyres are when warm. I dont know how they are from cold. Depends how hard you work tyres on the road. Though, both the acceleras and the zestinos come in a soft compound, so id probably go for soft zestinos.
