Looking for new tyres as mine are from 2016 and have cracked quite significantly all round each tyre. There are 5mm left all round but due to the cracking I'd be looking for something new.

215/45R 18" Rims

Mazda 3 Sport. Nothing particularly fast but I do enjoy driving

Either Hankook Ventus S1 Evo 3 ( K127 )
Or Michelin Pilot Sport 5

Both tyres are about the same price fitted. What do you guys recommend ?
Thanks

Hankook have made massive improvements in the past half decade. I’ve driven the Ventus in another size recently, they combined good steering with excellent grip characteristics in wet and dry.

Regards Michelin, they are generally very good to excellent. I also like their ideas about maintaining decent performance right to the wear limit.

I‘d take the Michelin.

Is the right answer, no brainer for the same price.

Got the Michelins fitted today, seem good so far.

Only concern is I'm fairly sure they haven't changed the valve, only the tyres. Any issue there ?

I do have TPMS but I don't think the valves themself are TPMS ( indirect TPMS which uses the ABS sensor ) as far as I know

If your car gives you a pressure reading, then the valves are definitely TPMS

If not, then it might use the travel of the wheel to determine a difference. But not sure if there are very basic TPMS setups still using a valve/sender that do not give pressure readings

Yeah I don't get pressure readings.

I thought it was standard practice to replace the valves when the tyre gets replaced ?

Checked tyre pressures this morning with my pressure gauge. One of the valves continued letting air out when I removed the gauge and i had to pull the pin down slightly for it to stop. Not very happy, I'll have to get them all replaced

I tried other brands but keep coming back to Michelins, sure footed, decent in the wet and last well.

Tried premium Continental, Pirelli, Goodyear and Bridgestone I seem to prefer Michelin.

I don’t think you can go wrong with most good brands for a normal car so although I prefer the Michelins I would say the ventus will be decent enough. For the same price Michelins all the way.

Have you tried replacing the core of the valve ?

I didn't consider that but I could try that, or would it be advisable to take it to a tyre place ?
