Mixed Tyres on car
Discussion
The other half got new tyres on her car. I'd told her 3 were knackered and the 4th was on it's way. She ordered 3 Kuhmo Ecstas over the phone and went to have them fitted. The fitter pointed out the 4th was also done and recommended getting it replaced too.
I had a look a week later and noticed the tyres don't match they're all the same size but the front 2 are Ecsta HS52 and one of the rears is a HS51. Not too bad as one is a newer version of the other, I'd be fine with that mix. They are all marked with "Outside" so assuming some asymmetric property (can actually see the asymmetry in the tread).
The 4th tyre is a Kuhmo Crugen Premium (possibly KL33 but can't find that on the tyre) and marked M+S, no "Outside" marking so assuming symmetric (looks symmetric). This is the one that has me concerned. Apparently intended more for proper 4X4 that a soft roader (Ford Kuga).
So we got 4 Kuhmo tyres like we asked for but are the types too different?
I've been on a budget and mixed tyre brands when I've replaced one at a time as needed so I'm no saint.
Maybe I'm just expecting too much that when you replace all 4 that they should match.
Should I be complaining?

If its the same place who supplied and fitted the tyres i'd be expecting all 4 the same.
M&S doesn't necessarily mean its winter rated, but look carefully if that odd tyre has the 3 mountain peaks with snowflake symbol on the sidewall it's a genuine winter rated tyre, not an ideal to mix winter and summer rated tyres especially as you bought from the same place.
M&S in itself only refers to the tread pattern, in that there will be a bigger percentage of tread grooves and sipes than on a standard summer tyre.

If I had gone to a tyre place for 4 tyres & they didn't match, yes I would be complaining.
Was she told they weren't the same?
1 is M & S!
REALLY?
M&S is just a measure of surface to groove ratio. It doesn't actually mean anything in terms of performance in or design for any specific conditions. Was she told they weren't the same?

Update. Been to the tyre place. Showed the receipt to the woman behind the counter and explained what was on the car. She had a look at the tyres and said "give me a minute" and then went off into the fitting bays. From a distance she could be seen having an "animated" discussion with the fitters.
We were invited back into the office where she apologised. She said there'd been a colossal ... (gritted teeth) crossover in their stock system. If we could come back in an hour they'll replace both rear tyres with HS52's to make it a full matched set and do a free alignment to make up for the inconvenience. (honestly I wasn't too bothered about the HS51 but she insisted)
I was taught years ago that the difference between good and bad companies is in how they deal with their mistakes. Would use again, would recommend. Raineys tyres Ballymena. Not much use to most of you
