I have a 97 z3 and it’s creaking over bumps, rattling down rough roads, squealing as it’s maneuvered etc. I presume new springs and shocks is the best way to make it feel better and stop the embarrassing noises?!

When you say squealing when it is manouvered, do you mean it squeals when you turn the steering wheel when the car is stationary or moving very slowly?

If that is the case, that could just be the auxiliary belt that drives the power steering pump being a bit loose. You should be able to check this quite easily.

What Z3 is it? As the belts are probably quite different between the 4 and 6 cylinder engines.

As for the creaks and rattles over bumps, is it more at the front or at the back? Suspension woes can be tricky to identify at times.

Have a look at this as well, it might help.

May or may not be related, But these suffer from bushings going on the front seats.... Possible rattle coming from there?

One more thing, if you can get this moved to the BMW forum it should get a lot more responses.

Welding the rear subframe back onto the car body might help wink
