Mixing manufacture spec tyres?
Discussion
I need a new tyre due to an inch long gash (Pirelli P Zero R01 spec for Audi) However due to tyre wear I'll have to replace both across the axle.
There are no R01 Pirelli's in the size I need in the UK, I've trawled every major retailer, my main dealer has the same story. We've both spoken to Pirelli and the earliest that they'll be available in the UK is late July. This is the same for Michelin tyres too.
It seems these are the options I can consider:
Two new Maserati spec Pirelli P Zero's on the rear axle with the existing Audi spec Pirellis on the front axle
Two new Pirelli P Zero PZ4 tyres on the rear axle with the existing Audi spec Pirellis on the front axle
Four new Audi spec R01 Continental 5P's
I'd prefer to stay with Pirelli, there is the obvious cost reason but I've had the Continental 5P on other cars in the past and not been a massive fan of them.
Would it be safe to fit Maserati / base spec PZ4's on one axle while retaining a pair of R01 spec Pirelli's on the other axle?

I am no tyre expert but that would seem okay to me.
I have fitted a pair of different tyres to the rear of my car when they needed replacing before the front tyres (with the aim of fitting matching fronts in the future).
Some difference in handling, but nothing to be worried about, all back to normal with 4 matching tyres. That was with completely different brands front to rear, so with all tyres being at least Pzero I would think it would be okay.

I would normally say crack on as I have done it several times, using other manufacturers spec on one given axle.
However doesn't the fact the car is 4wd make things a little trickier, and particularly in terms of warranty compliance?
Alternatively you could go for the 4 Conti option and sell the 2 spare tyres on ebay.
Does the x4 tyre option need to have an Audi spec? Can't you just go with a generic standard spec?

Thanks, I would prefer to remain with R01 fitment as I expect it could have some bearing on any drive drain related warranty claims plus I've been eyeing up the C8 gen RS6's so if traded back into Audi later in the year I'll get a black mark against the PX value for not having R01's fitted, but yes I suppose it is an option to put 4 generic P Zero PZ4's on the car. However doesn't the fact the car is 4wd make things a little trickier, and particularly in terms of warranty compliance?

I sympathize having just got a puncture ( not repairable ) in my new R8 with all of 500 miles on the clock -and supposedly no MPS4S's in the country !
I have suggested to the Dealer that providing Audi UK agree I don't mind switching all 4 to the PZ4 and then when the Michelin comes back in to swap back but I'm not going to pay for more than 1 of them.I imagine they will agree to the switch on the back axle to the Pirelli but will see.
