At the risk of stating the obvious, are you saying you want us to use the online calcs for you & then post on here for you?

Nah, not 'appenin' fella, do it yourself. wink

the calcs give me numbers they dont tell me if they will fit wink

i have no way of getting measurements at the back of the rear wheel to see it they will rub on the liners, suspension is inboard of the wheel well so thats not an issue

The on line calls will mostly show the comparison between rolling circumferences. Such as
http://www.wheelcalc.com/
For fouling on liners etc, you will need to keep the same wheel offset as the original wheel offsets (which will probably be different for front and rear).

The offset would be changing from 49-56 and the wheel is .5 wider

Honestly I think I've found a decent set with tyres that will fit as they are original to the range the problem with Merc not really offering different wheels finding smaller ones is very hard we pretty much only get 19" and 20" Germany has loads because there you don't have to by packs you can spec how you like

If the wheel width is narrower then the offset can be varied and still maintain clearance to the liners etc.

True, but keeping the same wheel offset, whatever the wheel and tyre width, will keep the same centre of the contact patch on the ground. Important wrt overall suspension geometry.
