I was checking out the popular RING mini compressors. Nearly all of them come with a screw connector for the tyre valve. I’ve had one foot pump with this type of connector and it was far fiddlier than a QR and as a result more air escapes when removing the hose. Maybe there’s something I’m missing, but why is this type of connector fitted to so many tyre inflators, compared to the much easier QR type?

I find the screw on ones much better - the snap on ones are iffy whether they work or not.

As above, they are simply better.

Push on are generally fine if you can also hold them on, or for a quick fill.

Most battery/portable tyre inflators are pretty slow.

So QR can be leaky? That's not been my personal experience, in all the years I've been using them.

Not leaky - I've found they're iffy whether they open the valve or not.

You do lose a touch of air when you undo the screw on ones but the gauges on the inflators are often way out anyway so I always overinflate a shade and then bring it down to the correct pressure with a separate gauge with a pressure release button. It's not criitical to half a pound or so anyway.

I've seen almost no quick release actually hold itself on and not leak without additional support. ie. the user always holds their hand on it during filling etc.

They work fine for me, too.

Me too, and far easier to connect and disconnect while leaning down awkwardly to reach the valve.

I hate screw connectors!!! The clip-on variety work fine and are massively easier.

Trying to screw on the connectors isn't easy when you've got cold & wet fingers, especially if they don't have substantial knurling. I've never had a problem with push-on, over-centre lock connectors and that includes over 40 years of servicing aircraft tyres! I've just been on eBay looking for a decent quality electric pump and just about all of them have screw-on fittings. : ^ (

These cheap adapters to convert screw type to push/clip on are surprisingly good for the price. I leave one in my Ring inflator. Much quicker than screwing onto each tyre.

As above.

I recently bought the newer, bigger Makita pump to replace my old one.

It came with the screw on type connector which seems fiddly to use. So I bought the adaptor above and a similar one to convert to the lever style so i could try them both out. So far I've stuck with the one above, it works pefectly and literally takes no time to clip on and holds firm and sealed with no issues.
