would you change this tyre
Discussion
the wife managed to clonk a kerb with the wheel slightly turned the other day... sadly it was in my car. Alloy is now rashed but it has sliced off a thin sliver of rubber from the sidewall. It doesn't seem to have gone deep, and i cannot see any canvas or anything... can i get away with not changing it for a new tyre??

Aha - wasn't sure if you knew that photos were not showing yet.
From those 2 uploaded now it doesn't look pretty - but hopefully just the protection strip doing it's job. Presumably no chords etc exposed at the thicker end?
i realised i started the post on laptop and the photo was on phone... you posted whilst i was swapping devices! From those 2 uploaded now it doesn't look pretty - but hopefully just the protection strip doing it's job. Presumably no chords etc exposed at the thicker end?
i can't see any cords but will double check, i have pulled the flap off now

It's just the rim protection bead.
I'd probably swap it around to hide that part - purely to keep the car looking neat.
If you swap it around, the outside part will still be facing outside....So either I don't get it, either.....hum....how to say I'd probably swap it around to hide that part - purely to keep the car looking neat.

OP, what is important is not to picture the bit that gets out, but what is under that bit: is any ply or cords exposed. I am sure not. Make the OH stress a bit, be a bit mad to her, and then say "it's alright, but take care next time

I'd pull it off or glue it down and keep using the tyre!
You’ll never glue those back, too much flexion.Guy at the MOT center (N.I) asked me about it when inspecting the tyres. Said it was fine.
Changed the tyres 18k miles later and it was still ok.
