Citroen Suspension Advice....?
Discussion
Is anyone a suspension guru? Query in relation to a Citroen DS5 - the rear suspension can be on the harsh side and the latest model has been fitted with Preloaded linear valve (PLV) dampers which apparently improve the ride.
Does any one know if a set of adjustable dampers would work in a similar way?
A member on the DS5 forum has enquired with Citroen about swapping old for new but they require chassis numbers for part prices etc - I was curious if an after market set up would help.
Also if changing the dampers would all 4 need to be replaced or could the rears only be done?
Cheers

Looking at servicebox I can see two different damper revisions, but no other mechanical changes.
If you sign up to http://service.citroen.com you can actually have a nosey at the part#s and diagrams yourself.
ETA: Shot of the parts available - this is on the THP 165, but looks the same everywhere. Since RPO is the revised part, until RPO is the old one. The THP-165 M from the facelift only has the since part# listed.

If they've just changed the dampers I can't see that they would mount differently etc. Surely you can go into a dealers and order dampers for a new type DS5. Find a 15 plate one, note down the reg and go into the parts dept?
Don't know why i didn't think of this... anyways - used a reg from a 15 plate car and parts confirmed that the dampers have been superceeded on the earlier models so that all replacements are the newer style - part number 9807784080. I enquired if this would be the same for the facelifted model and so far as their systems show they would be. Cost £150+ VATCheers for the input!

RPO (or ORGA) number tells you the build date. And 13510 was Nov 4th, 2013.

That's not your now-with-wings-not-chevrons spec dampers. That's a very-early-production change. The revised part number is what the OP'll have on now.
TBH, I _doubt_ Citroen's online parts will tell you the now-with-wings part number, because it's not a Citroen... It's a DS. Yes, I know, I know... But...

Our car is a 2012 - with original spec dampers, parts confirmed that there was a newer damper fitted and a 2015 model had the newer part number allocated. They did say that this was the only one listed and they "expected" this would fit the new DS branded vehicle.RPO (or ORGA) number tells you the build date. And 13510 was Nov 4th, 2013.

I think I'll find the reg of a facelift model and re-check to be sure though!
Checked with a facelift model registration and the part numbers are the same so it seems the new PLV dampers are now standard fit for all Citroen DS5 & DS5

That's odd - because the allegedly MUCH improved ride on the DS-branded car is ascribed to new dampers...Checked with a facelift model registration and the part numbers are the same so it seems the new PLV dampers are now standard fit for all Citroen DS5 & DS5

I haven't driven a newer car tbh so i can't say how much different it is.... not overly expensive though so maybe worth it.

From what they said - there was an upgrade on all new cars after September 2014 so "64" plate models onwards have the revised dampers - i think with the DS re brand they are advertising this more so than when just an update on the earlier models occurred.
P'raps. I've just looked back of the now-with-wings press release guff, and there's no explicit mention of suspension upgrades at all. Maybe the journos just didn't drive one from that interim period.OTOH, that ^ revised part number is Nov '13 (not '14) production...
Has anyone actually carried out a Citroen DS5 rear damper upgrade? Did it help the rear end stay on the road? Does part number 9807784080 refer to the latest version of the dampers?( I'm getting two different prices from my friendly garage, £140/pair and £170/pair.) Lastly! - when was the last Citroen/DS upgrade of the suspension? Was it post '14?

We never ended up changing the dampers - car is my Dad's and is happy with it as is. When i contact Leeds Citroen i used a 15 plate car reg which was one of the face lifted (read new grille) DS5 cars - i know this because I also inquired re the strobing indicators which are only available on the facelift. Are you sure the price difference is not front and rear?

Is service.citroen.com showing any different part numbers yet?Easy way to tell if it's covering the DS-brand cars - does it show the non-chevron front end panels?
Thanks for this. I was just checking that the number quoted wasn't for an older version of the dampers. I think Citroen are on their third attempt at getting it right. The prices were definitely both for the rear. The front dampers were dearer than the rears by a bit. I thought that I'd do the rears and see how it went, in the hope that it might not be necessary to do the fronts. The car's fine on well-surfaced roads but anything in the way of bumps and it's not so hot. Worst ever was on a dual section of the A9 when it hit a series of, not too bad, potholes which resulted in it bouncing sideways which was just a bit disconcerting and potentially dangerous on a single carriageway road.
Any news on this? I've had my car for only 5 weeks, and I'm very close to relisting it on auto trader. I thought I could live with suspension but it turns out I can't. That coupled with an end oil seal leak has me regretting my purchase. It would be good if Citroen offered some way of fixing this issue.
I have recently purchased a 2012 DS5 Hybrid love everything about this car except the ride especially on bumpy roads.
Having read here that there is a simple shock absorber swap that may improve the ride I am very excited. Before I order a pair of SACHS 314934 I just want to check that they are OK for a 2012 Hybrid4 vehicle.
