Hi all smile Does anyone know what (if any) the differences are in damper lengths and/or fitments on the spitfires from Mk1 to 1500? Was there a change for example on rear damper with the transition from fixed to swing spring? and have there been any changes to front dampers over the years.
cheers all smile

Hello Alan,

My first post, but don't let that put you off smile

I used to work in the R&D Dept. at Moss Europe Ltd (you may have heard of them)and basically there is no change in damper as we/they sell the same part number (GSA385 IIRC) for all models of Spitfire.

So there is no difference between the Rotoflex and non Rotoflex models.

Hope this helps although you have probably found the answer by now anyway!

Regards
Tej

Although there were probably minor differences in setting for various models - all front shocks for Herald/Vitesse/Spitfire/GT6 are now classed as the same.

(for geeks note that very early Heralds had a lower mounting for the spring)

Rear shocks are a slightly different story - basically all non rotoflex cars use the same item, despite the longer driveshafts of later Spitfire and GT6.

Rotoflex GT6 use a special shock that goes longer AND shorter than a standard item (with special bushes). Vitesse Mk II uses lever arms

Beware some rotoflex conversion kits supplied with shocks that don't go short enough (although I can't believe anyone is still selling these).

Also beware Spax type adjustable units which adjust the bounce and the rebound - WRONG - only the rebound should be adjusted.
