Ok, here goes....I used to own a 1970 Mark 3 Spitfire which I loved & adored, had it for 11 years. 5 years ago I bought a 1990 Mk 1 MX5 and sold the little Spit. Now as much as I loved the Spit, the MX5 was a far far better car and to this day I have not had any issues with it at all, it has passed every MOT and all I have ever done is general servicing, utterly reliable. Well guess what I am doing next week....selling the MX5 or rather trading it against a fully rebuilt 1975 Spitfire 1500.

Am I : a) Mad b) Bonkers c) nuts ?????

So come on all you Triumph fans....tell Me I am doing the right thing.

PS - I won't be using Spitty daily, Ive recently aquired a Rover 45 diesel as my everyday hack!

LOL!! Because its cheap tax (post Mar 2001) , does 60mpg, I dont feel I have to wash it every week, its a Rover so it wont get nicked, I can park it anywhere, drive it through hard winters without giving it a second thought, can pick up oily spares for my Triumphs in it.....you want any more reasons?

Cheap unpopular cars are the way forward for everyday snotters if you want to keep youre classics nice......unless you have stloads of cash which I dont!tongue out

Deciding what car you like/want is not a rational thing. If it was, I'd have a BMW 330 cabriolet instead of my Stag. If you want one, go for it. As long as you aren't overpaying for the spit then if you do decide you've made a mistake you can sell it for very little loss and get something else. If you don't do it you'll kick yourself every time you see another one...and life's too short for that!
