Triumph forum is here, caught me napping! I have a 1972 damson 150bhp TR6, will post picture when I find out how. Great car for open top motoring but does not seem to like traffic on a hot day.
I used to drool over pictures of damson TR6's in '71/72, had them all over my bedroom wall, but ended up with the next best thing, a new pimento red Spitfire Mk 4 in '73...
Bring back Triumphs I say....
TR6 Hot Engine Failures - Cautiously Optimistic
After several summers of overheating in traffic may have found the answer to my problems, discovered coil breaking down when engine very hot. Mounted new coil on bulkhead and keeping fingers crossed car may now be able to cope with SW London traffic.

Spartacus, do you have a Kenlowe or other electric fan? My GT6 was forever overheating in traffic, as indeed was my first TR6. My current 6 with the Kenlowe kit has never overheated - and with the new rad down-pipe thermostat switch I've fitted (available from Revington TR) I don't anticipate any more probs in this area.

I have a kenlow fan fitted with stainless bottom hose incorporating thermostatic switch which has really improved cooling tremendously. I think it's a case of heat sync causing the problem. Have eliminated PI system by causing engine to fail with bonnet closed and pressure gauge fitted just before metering unit full 7bar even when engine cut out. We next fitted see through spark caps on plugs and could plainly see spark failing under load when very hot, so have mounted new coil away from heat of engine and so far so good.

I am in cloud cuckoo land at the moment, with 2 essential but expensive to run cars so no chance for the near future which is a bit of a pity, you never know, give it a couple of years.
If a 6 could handle year long daily 30 mile commutes then I would happily don a wooly hat in the winter but I fear it would be too much for a car that should not be subjected to the daily abuse (and my wallet)
Must admit, it is the only car that I have wanted with quite a passion from the age of 6 (34 now)

As you say, don't think it would be the ideal car for everyday commuting.
Not ideal granted, but good fun. I used mine (in mechanically sorted but crappy bodywork mode) for three years for both commuting and some longer distance client visiting trips.
The great thing about doing this is that the huge number of crisp mornings / balmy evenings you can enjoy in the car is enhanced many times, more than enough to make up for the car's indifferent cabin heat and demisting abilities on cold wet days. Check out this months Retro magazine BTW - intersting TR feature in there.
Finding an affordable one is the problem though. It honestly wouldn't bother me if I had to wear a wet suit driving it, ah well, it will have to wait.
Ideally I would like a 100% solid car mechanically, but as you say, crap bodywork, well visually crap, as long as it was ok in the right places. We shall wait and see.......

I know what you guys are saying about saving. I just bought a 71 mk4 spitfire in need of a fair amount of work. Rust however seems to be one of the smaller problems so I am hopefully going to get her resprayed for the summer. Just trying to get an mot for now....... When I have a pic will post it somewhere on here. Not a TR6 but not a bad start
