Hello All,

Is this an active forum? I have moved over from the HSV forum as I have sold my CV8 Monaro and bought a TR6, I know very different types of car but I have always wanted one since I was a boy.

Anyway I have already done a few simple mods, electric fan, spin off oil filter, tyres and a few suspension bushes etc.

I started to change the rubber seals on the side windows only to find it more difficult than I thought anybody got any tips?

thanks Andy

Not sure how many TR6 owners we have active in here but you might like to try joining the TR Register/TR Register forums - http://www.tr-register.co.uk/forums/index.php

That's probably your best bet for TR6 advice.

Bit of a shock isn't it, going from a Monaro to a TR6.

But anyway, your rubber seals, or "weather strips" as they are called. It is a bit of a fiddly job. What you need to do is take a piece of thin-ish malleable metal about 15mm wide by 300mm long and bend it into a sort of hook shape, so the hook is about 10mm deep with a 5mm capacity. Tug the old weather strip out. Then starting at the front hook your new hook tool under the front trim clip inside the door window channel, then align the recessed part of the new weather strip with the clip and push down as you simultaneously pull up with the hook tool. The purpose of the hook tool is to prevent the trim clips from falling down into the door as you push down the new weather strip. If that happens you need to take off the door trim, which is a whole new bundle of fun.

Hi Yertis I seem to remember you joining in on the HSV forum.... Straight six is a whol lot of fun and I can get bits for it... better than waiting months for Vauxhall or paying silly prices for things.

Andy

ps thanks for the advice with the weather strips

I bought the tool from Moss at Bradford for around £9 and it made the job on my spitfire very easy. New clips are a must.

I thought i was the only person to have a Monaro and a TR6. That was last year and i sold the TR6 after six years to buy a TVR V8S - a similar car in some respect.

I also fancy a TVR, specifically the Tuscan which I've some experience of and which feels like a TR6 on hard drugs.

That said the Tuscan straight-six engine seems not to be well engineered so a Tuscan with a Chevy LS1 or 2 would be ideal.

Going a bit off topic but the Tuscan 6 shouldn't cause any real issues - now at least.

The engine did suffer from some pre-production design changes and a lack of testing, which is always an issue for small manufacturers. These days the design flaws have been addressed and the bad engines have gone bang and been replaced. The good engines that haven't gone bang yet probably never will.
