I am fitting a Spitfire mk4 1300 engine into my 50`s kit car and am missing the distributor, i have various Triumph spares `lying around` and have a nearly new 1500 dizzy (Lucas 45D4). Question is can i use this and if so will it affect performance and should i set the timing as per the 1300 (Delco distributor) or 1500?.........Martin

it depends wether your dizzy holder is a delco or lucas one, if its lucas it should all run fine, if it has a bracket to fit a delco then id get a new one to fit the lucas as the delcos are ste! i would consider however getting either a 123 dizzy or megajolt.

i may actualy be wrong as canleys dont specify that this if for one type of dizzy only.

anyway have a go and see if it fits, all the timing should be done the same as the 1300

Yes I had the 45D4 on my 1300 mk3, it will work ok, but you may have to adjust the spring rates to adjust the mech advance depending on what cam you have fitted, going aldon igni is worth it as well.

Not an easy one, its all based on what cam you have. IIRC and its years ago I did this, but a static adv of 14 deg and a full adv of 32deg, full adv all in at 3500rpm. The only way is to adjust then try , then re-adjust as req. I did it on the road, but a session of rolling road would save hours of testing.

One thing to think of too is that the rev counter on a Delco dizzy is cable driven and is electric on the Lucas.
