Stag - not pulling strongly
Discussion
Brought Stag (original manual V8) out of hibernation for the supposed summer and engine fires up first time on the button, ticks over nicely.
However when pulling away there seems to be a real lack of power, once moving and the revs are up everything seems better, but its hard to judge if theres atill a lack of acceleration in the upper rev range.
Air filter / Oil pressure / temp OK / dash pot oil levels OK.
Still a bit of a novice at "spannering" - so any ideas were to look first greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Lucas distributors can easily suffer from a siezed centrifugal advance, plus all distributors can have a duff vacuum advance. Always worth while checking as the centrifugal in particular makes a huge difference.
As above. Check the vacuum advance by taking the dizzy cap and vacuum pipe (manifold end) off and then suck on the advance vacuum pipe and make sure the points plate moves.BurblingBrownOne said:
Checked vacuum advance, sucked on pipe but points plate does not move.
At least I know where to concentrate now.
Thanks for the pointer.
Might be the diaphram in the advance unit that has perished. You do need to suck quite hard though to get any movement. Also, have you tried moving the plate by hand? It might be stuck and in need of some 'help' and lubrication. Anyone would think I've had the same problem At least I know where to concentrate now.
Thanks for the pointer.
