Tax for a spitfire registered on or after 01/01/1973 will be £125.

If your looking for a spitfire and are prepared to travel, The Spitfire Graveyard have a few for sale.

The tax free cut-off date is cars BUILT before 1st Jan. 1973, so all Mk 1/2/3 Spitfires are tax exempt as should all pre-facelift Mk IV ('narrow' rear track/black dash).

From memory the facelift was for the 1973 model year but Triumph would have started building them in late 1972 (and it's the build date not the registration date that's important). As a result some 'L' reg. facelift Mk IVs are also tax exempt.

The 1500 didn't come in until 1975 (from memory) so none are tax free.

I agree with the above.
I have seen a few Mk 4 Spits however which have been modified into the arguably easlier to live with 1500 spec - ie 1500 engine, overdrive gearbox, interior and even the front splitter, but maintaining the historic status of the earlier car.
