My Stag (MK II Manual 1977 - Stromberg Carb's) Starts no problem when cold and drives well.
However I cannot restart the car when the engine is still warm?
When I turn ignition it sounds almost as if the battery is flat, engine will attempt to turn over briefly then starter can be heard clicking.
If return to car later on engine will fire up on the first turn of the key.

Any advice greatly appreciated from people with more mechnaical know-how than me (zero).

Mike.

Hi Mike.
This MIGHT be a hot solenoid problem.
Which in turn could show that the solenoid is defective. And because it is far esier to replace the whole starter unit then that is the way to go.

Thanks,
I feared a new start motor would be the way to go.

The RV8 in the TVR Chim / Griff suffers similar issues, however they are related to the wiring rather than the solenoid itself. There is a kit to fix it (which uses a relay to switch full blast from the battery to the solenoid rather than whatever the wiring can deliver). Might be a cheaper fix than a new starter.
