Hi guys,

I seem to have taken custody of my brothers '73 sprint. However the steering when driving on any kind of road surface is all over the place, the car just wanders about to a relatively alarming degree with a mind of it's own!

However, its had new steering rack and univeral joint and there isn't a huge amount of slack in the steering when stationary and passed an MOT with flying colours a few weeks back. (although that guarentee nothing i know!) The slack in the steering when stationary is no more than my MG's for example.

Just wondered before I dive in and start randomly searching if there is anything specific to the Dolly that might be a good idea to check first. It had the tracking etc done after fitting the rack, but it doesn't really feel like that. Its more like the feeling you get when shocks are totally shot when you go over a bump in the road and the car is all over the place. (but the shocks are new and its not just over bumps).

Any ideas gladly accepted....

Cheers,

Neil

Sub frame bushes (all of them) & also rear axle bushes. TR7's drive like this when the bushes are knackered! The rear wheel steering on a V8 can get scary, long before the bushes are an MOT fail biggrin
Also check the body where the suspension mounts, have seen these rot & n ot be noticeable to the MOT man.
Also check steering coupling column to rack, they die slowly & this can cause weird steering.

Steering rack mounting bushes perish, rot, give up. This allows rack to move taking the wheels with it. Used poly bushes on mine a long time ago when I had it.
