Classic Car Insurance TR6
Discussion
Insurance
Join a club (TSSC/Club Triumph/TR Register) as it normally gets you a bit off and many clubs have deals with insurers (TSSC have deals with Footman James, Peter D James and Adrian Flux, TR Register with Towergate Risk Solutions - not sure CT have anything).
Hardtops
I'd say don't bother - more trouble than they are worth (PITA to store in the summer and to fit without scratching the paintwork, not really any more water-tight than a quality, well fitted hood).

Thanks for that.. I have got a good quote from Adrian Flux so far (£120) for 3000 miles, service was excellent as well. I don't know how much more it would cost for a couple '000 more miles. Also might take their recovery as I think RAC have a problem with old cars
Will lay off hardtop idea, just don't get such long summers in Scotland :-)
I am thinking of getting a transport know how practical a 5 hour drive will be,,, I've not driven as old a car as this for 30 years!

I have mine insured with Footman James - £150 ish with TSSC discount for unlimited mileage & breakdown cover included.
5 hour drive, no problem: the TR6 is a comfortable long distance cruiser when you want it to be. Taken mine to Le Mans twice and Devon once and will happily get into it and drive all day without getting muscle cramp or uncomfortable etc.
As for the hard top, what's the point? A TR6 should only be driven one way: Roof down and grinning!

Train sss plural.. it would be about 3 trains which for 2 would cost about the same as hire car and take ages.
I have a few days driving up and down from Jockland so I'm being selfish and thinking more of my fatigue.
I've not made up my mind yet but either way I will be doing a fair bit of driving next week anyway.

Lovely car but please please please get some old style black and silver number plates like the other cars in the first picture, really make the car!!! //j17 said:
What, get a set of those silver/black plates that would almost certainly be illegal on an N-plate (doubt you will find many TR6s built before 01-01-1973 and not registered until 01-08-1974.
Registered April '75. Have not checked the build date but I'd be surprised if it was before 01-01-73.Edited by ingrowtn on Wednesday 16th April 12:47
Darn tootin...
The car arrived on the back of the truck at 1 a.m. Friday morning. I was glad I didn't drive it up as the M6 was a disaster on Thursday and the weather was mince at on occasions. The transporter company guy was saying they had underquoted the delivery by 90 quid so that writes off my diesel, KFC and B&B costs.
I took the car for a quick spin Friday morning. Being a classic TR virgin I managed to get it started "eventually" albeit with a cloud of black smoke... more choke vicar? The petrol guage was looking very sad and was pointing towards my girlfriend so the petrol station was priority. Being in a rural location this was still going to be a nailbiting excersize? I didn't know how long the fumes in the tank would last..
The car was lively to say the least but a bit rough, but we survived to the garage. Once filled with laughing gas it perked up no end.. she must have been sucking no end of crap from the bottom of the tank.
I had to leave her for a couple of days but I had a great run on the 20th (drive classic day?) with the hood down as well... it was a hoot...
It's dry today so I will be out for a wee while.
If I can work out how to plant a picture here I will add one later.
