I've just got some vented discs for the front brakes but instead of fitting the old standard 2 pot calipers I want to fit 4 pots. I've read that calipers from 80-84 Toyota light commercials fit straight on but there's not a lot of them left lying around in scrap yards these days. Does anyone know anything else that will fit?

So Toyota calipers are rare and your suggestion is Princess ones! These are even harder to find (and weigh a tonne).

A 4-pot kit is the easy option - Moss do one (www.moss-europe.co.uk) and probably most other TR specialists.

You will be looking a long time. Full race AP setup with monster alloy belled discs is about a grand by the waywink You don't need vented.

i'm just specing up a potewntial restoration and looking for lightweight and track based upgrades.

do the none vented discs stand up to a track day? i race non vented on my westy but that's a fair bit lighter than a tr6.

also, what pads to use with the ap calipers, do ebc green stuff work ok during road driving, again i use them on the westy where they're excellent once warm but have heard they lack feel on the road where they just don't get enough temp in them.

They do if they are 315mm! Might not be suitable for longer races (though think fine - car is 100kg lighter now at about 930kg).

Ferrodo 2500 I think fine for racing and road (but we do very little on road - makes no difference if just occasional use). Hawk Blues are good if running std calipers - ok if you can get car down to say 950 or below above that forget it - but agressive sintered.

There is a book in this stuff Modding TR250/5/6 or something - alot is cobblers but some good stuff.

Not sure what you are meaning hear - Alloy Bells on the Discs (yes) or Alloy Bell housing on the gearbox (it is all one casting as per all TR boxes).

Don't bother with Alloy hubs - there sis ome utter SH*T out therewink

Have a stack of stuff to make your Tr very fast if interested.

i.e. Full Race Head (we had between 220 and 225bhp with this this year (getting a MEGA BUCKs one made now (£2k) to replace it but likely less than an extra 8 10bhp in this (one just come off it Very good - Smashed one lap record this year with it and load of fastest laps), Tweeked 150 Fi system (158bhp @ wheels ~ 175 at fly with this had but with less CR (now 11.2 then 10.5), Fast Road ClassicRacecraft CR4 Cam (as new) with matched high spec followers.

if interestedwink

thanks for that, nice pic of the brake set up. i'm just at the gathering info stage for my project but i'm looking to build a lightweight tr6 to be used for fun and the occasional trackday but it won't be raced - i've got a westfield i use for that but it's too race biased to be used on the roads and i've always wanted to build my own tr6 since i was a kid.

sorry i wasn't very clear on the bell housing, i do mean the gearbox housing, on the westfield i use a ford gearbox and the housing is alloy which saves about 25kg's over the standard cast iron one. i was wondering if something similar was available for tr6's.

did orginally consider fitting a 2.0l duratec engine with circa 240bhp and weighing about 100kg's less than the triumph straight 6 but decided this would be a touch too sacriligous even for me. smile

thanks for the engine parts, too early for me to start purchasing bits but i'll definitely bear it in mind when it is time. thumbup

Custard.

The Whole Gearbox case on a Tr is Alloy they are VERY Light.

Eek to the Ford route (I am in favour of V8 replaced with V8 as you can see from my profilewink but no point on a Triumph 6. They are great engines - std crank ok to occasional 6500k if bottom end well balanced. Std roads and pistons ok to about those revs upto about 180bhp.

900kg is nothat hard to achieve if fully stripped, no screen and plastic panels.

Fire me any question on them if you like we have been racing 4's and 6's since 1990.
