value of a restored stag
Discussion
a mate of mine has just bought two triumph stags that are in need of some restoring.
he intends to do the work and then sell them on for a profit.
is this possible?, what is the value of a well restored stag? and how much do you usually have to spend on one?
will try and post more details of the cars later
thanks in advance

As to the value of a restored Stag, much depends upon the quality of the restoration.
Do it properly by refurbishing everything and the cost of the parts is likely to be greater than the final value.
Bodge it and it will be all too evident to a discerning buyer.
Somewhere inbetween the two and you'll probably get your money back / maybe make a small profit - and that's if you don't charge for your time.

I spent nearly £20k on a complete restoration on mine in the early- mid 90's. It bought it in '88 for £2.5k and did a complete nut and bolt mech and body prof resto from a sandblasted shell. I did about 4k miles in it after I had it restored it and I sold it on eBay for about £8k in Aug'05 when it was still in immaculate condition - it was a Signal red Mk2 reg RYO 431L - I wonder where it is now.
Moral of the story , buy the best you can afford because you aint gonna make any money if you have someone restore it for you.
I also used to own a MK1 Stag in the mid '80s - FLP 41J - sold it late '86 for £2.5k - was originally white & previous owner had it resprayed in Mercedes Red ( Color code DB64) - wonder if that is still on the road ?
