Check out http://www.canleyclassics.com/infodatabase.asp?art...

Not much to choose (internally) between the different small Triumph diffs. So long as the flanges are the same size/hole pattern as your prop and driveshafts it will fit. From there it's just a question of ratio - http://www.mintylamb.co.uk/gearspeed/

i think the 6 bolt fixings were for pre swing-spring diffs so i think yes it's an early version, though my memory was never great and i'm getting old these days. what was the question again?

Yep - 6 holes means it was originally fitted to a fixed-spring car (Herald/Vitesse/pre-Mk IV Spitfire/pre-late Mk3 GT6). To tell which you will have to check the ratio/flange size and shape.

Other than the 2 extra holes the diffs are all the same and swappable (subject to ratios).

The only trick is, if fitting a 6-hole diff to a swing spring/4-hole car you need to block the 2 unused holes or oil can get forced out and dirt/water can drop in.
