Triumph TR6 Scuttle Air Flap Seal. -- Bad fit, aftermarket.
Discussion
Bought a new seal for the scuttle air intake flap and just cannot get it to fit properly. The three bolt holes were wrongly punched (easily rectified), but essentially, the thickness of the seal wall immediately by the horizontal anchoring flap prevents the hingse sitting squarely over the bolt holes. Forcing the hinge inward to make it fit results in the seal being pushed upward, with the result the metal flap does not close properly, as the seal is holding it up on the windscreen side.
I imagine the original part was profiled at this point. Does anyone do an original pattern piece, or are these that are about now all the same, with the same issue ? (or am I missing something in how I'm tackiling it -- I'm presuming the metal hinge flap sandwiches the rubber flap) ?

The repro flap seals are crap. They’re too thick all round, the rubber is too stiff and they don’t fit the aperture on scuttle very well. I trimmed mine to get as good a fit as I could, but the flap still sits slightly proud. Mine has pulled free at one end at the mo and needs gluing back. But I’m thinking about trying some other solution using a suitably profiled sealing strip.
