TR7's in Corvette forum

Hi Jon,
No offence taken or intended but I have to stick up for the 7/8's.
I have the same suspension mods as Mick Richards had. "A" frame as well and wishbones up front. The reason Larry probably couldn't drive the car is because he changed all the suspension settings and never got it back to the way Mick had it. I don't think he really understood how it all worked as a package. It was a shame that Mick never got to race against Colin's car, I suspect he would have been quicker but it never happened.

No probs Mike - TR7's (not bad cars at all in V8 form) but you just can't race them in many series - a bit of a dead end - the 6's and earlier leave you with alot more options.
Mine will really rock with some more mods for next year - if I ever get the time to get it straightened in between house stuff, TVRs and the other Tr6 racer!

TR7's can be raced in the TR Register/TSSC Championship series, on all Triumph grids - www.inside-track.co.uk/simon/trrace/index.html

Do you have any spec or further details on Mick Richards suspension setup?
Or indeed what Colin is running?
Cheers
Mike...
I have the jigs to replicate Mick Richards set up so can repeat the parts It's better then the 5 link set up but still involves a fair amount of work. You need to fabricate quite a lot.
The car ends up with almost zero roll and the rear roll centre is much lowered then it is on a stock TR7/8.

Chaps - am I right in thinking Mikes used the rear arms the wrong way round or something like this?
The open ends of the "A" frame mount behind the seats where the lower links used to be. The apex of the "A" frame mounts under the diff via a spherical bearing. Then you relocate the lower links to above the axle and sent them rearwards. One end has a nylon bush whilst the other end has a spherical bearing. Rear springs can be fairly soft as the roll is controlled by front spring poundage. You can dial in anti-squat and you already have anti tramp. Roll is minimal. The front of the car gets converted to lower wishbones and the roll bars are thrown away. Stiff front springs also give some anti-dive under breaking.
It's very complex to do but works extremely well!
