TR4 Surrey Top
Discussion
Late reply but no, a Surrey is not like other hard-top convertibles
The metal surrey top is fully trimmed, bloody heavy. It is fixed to the front header and rear Surrey frame “hoop” with four chrome bolts. When off it does not fit in the car. It barely fits in a shed.
What you should get with the car is a small folding frame that goes front to back between Surrey “hoop” and front header to support a piece of vinyl that has metal frame elements that hook under a lip on the aluminium front header and attaches with bolts through the holes in the Surrey frame that holds the main roof
The folding frame has two rubber “stoppers” that plug into holes in the aluminium header and threaded sections that plug horizontally into holes in the Surrey frame - these threaded sections carry nuts so you can alter the tension of the top. The vinyl also shrinks.

The Surrey Top is actually the folding fabric centre piece, not the fixed rear panel (known as a “backlight”).
You could also have a full metal roof panel. The backlight and frame stays bolted to the car (which is why the cars are such a joy to drive with the top off, like a 911 Targa)Gassing Station | Triumph | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
