Hi all
Can anyone assist with a speedo query please.
I swapped out my old speedo for a second hand unit and a new cable....but it still doesn’t work.
I can see the drive wire rotating when I disconnect the speedometer....and I’ve checked the speedo using a drill....appeared to be working in reverse.
Any suggestions as to the cause as both the speedo and cable work independently but not together.
I’d appreciated your advice.
Many thanks

Ideas which might help -
Are you totally sure the cable turns ? they can break inside the outer cable, and it's not very obvious.
Obvious thing is to say you haven't engaged the cable into the speedo properly if it spins ....but....
Assuming it's got the 'elbow' drive like the saloons (gearbox end) , that can wear to the point where it won't drive properly
(try grabbing the cable end with your fingers when driving to load it a bit - GENTLY - it can take the skin off...done that !)
and lastly the cable is a 'square drive' at each end, and it can also wear the edges off, like a rounded nut, so either end could be rounded off ,
which again will spin when there's no load, but slip otherwise....
and last (from kit car experience with parts swopping)
are you sure inner is long enough to engage with speedo properly ? It is possible to have a visible end on those Smiths cables, but for it to be
broken off or too short to drive/engage. Does (either) end look broken off ?
or on the basis it's a replacement set - have they supplied the right cable? have you got old one to compare (see previous)
is square the right size ?
try connecting and turning cable from gbox end (yeah a PITA to do)
Hope that helps with finding problem...
