Hi everyone this is my first post on piston heads ,I've got fuel leaking out of one carb ( strombergs). The fuel is coming out of breather pipe which comes off elbow, plus there was fuel in air filter box, never had any experience with strombergs , help would be appreciated. Cheers. Dave.

Sounds like the float chamber needle valve leaking. Not uncommon.

It might just be some muck but more likely the valve is worn.

Not difficult to replace, but I have had lots of trouble with aftermarket valves. The same valve is used on old Land Rovers, and they seem to be the most reliable.

It's also worth trying reseating the old ball-bearing into the valve body (ie tap it fairly firmly with a hammer).

Good luck.

One trick that sometimes clears muck making a needle valve stick is to start the car and then pull the inertia switch to cut off the fuel supply to the carbs and then run till it starts to conk out, then turn inertia switch back on and start car to see if it's cleared .
