I'm getting itchy spanners again and the GT6 has always been a car that I fancied owning, having had a Spitfire as my first car.

The only trouble is I don't know if it's a case of rose tinted specs and that the GT6 won't scratch the itch. In order that I can answer the question without going to waste a sellers time, is there anyone in the Huntingdon or surrounding area with at GT6 that would be willing to take me out for a ride?

At present, I'm thinking of doing to a GT6 what Eagle do to an E-Type. Upgrade but try to keep the essential GT6ness. So along with a restoration ditch the rotoflex in favour of CV joints, possibly go 5 speed, fit the 2.5PI engine but port the head, fit roller rockers, fast road cam and most importantly fit modern EFI, upgrade the cooling and possibly add air con. The idea is to create a classic that can be used regularly, will not be embarrassed by a modern hot hatch and most importantly can be driven by my wife who doesn't want any of that manual choke nonsense.

MK,
Go to the TSSC website and look for the Area Directory (left hand column)
Click on that, look for your local area (right hand column) and their meeting time and place. Will also give a contcat number or address for the Area Organiser, who I hope will put you in touch with a local GT6 owner.

OR, Club Triumph do similarly. Click on "The Club" and "Local Groups" http://club.triumph.org.uk/theclub/localgroups?sho...

Good luck!

I had a Mk1 (when it and I was a mere 21 years old) and enjoyed it immensely. It was pretty standard apart from a Triumph Tune (?) exhaust and replacement diff with a shorter final drive (for unknown reasons). It did drone a bit in the cruise but I was happy with it.

I do like the sound of an Eagle-inspired version... so just had a quick Google and found this which doesn't go anywhere near that concept but may provide a few pointers...

If you're looking at re-engineering a GT6 you might want to check out T6 Fabrication. Pick up a rusty old Spitfire or GT6 for it's chassis then drop a T6 body on top.

Mr.Knight?
Are you there? Over a week since your post - have you given up on the idea?

No, this is the closest thing to a Le Mans Spitfire!

Even has enough original parts, or re-manufactured original parts to get FIA papers.
