Hi, I am thinking of putting a BMW 3 series engine/gearbox in a TR6 for more power and reliability.
Anyone with experience and suggested engine. I am worried that the later engines will be difficult to operate when out of the original car.
Any advice.

It's not n easy job but people have even put M3 engines in TR6s so not beyond possible.

The fact that the running gear is so weak mean's you will have to upgrade all the downstream components.

I always fancied a diesel TR6 but the problems are great.

Todays TR6 is the BMW Z4 and they are cheap enough.

Agreed the system is a bit weak. I am thinking of fitting a Nissan R200 diff and maybe uprated shafts. There are several brake alternatives depending on the wheels.

A lot depends on your capabilities or whoever is doing the conversion. I wold buy a complete car and transfer the guts required. It's a lot easier when you start with something that runs.

Check out http://www.britishv8.org/ if you haven't already lot's of mostly americans doing some great conversions on british sports cars. If I remember there's a very nice M3 converted Tr somewhere in there.

Im putting a BMW V8 into my TR7 at the moment...

Are you looking to go 4, 6 or 8 cylinder? the 8's are rather big.. Boxes arent huge tho..

E36 M3 engine non evo would be my choice, buying a full damaged car would likely be the best route.
