Let's go racing
Discussion
Hi Folks
So as if I haven't got enough to do trying to rebuild the TR7 I'm going to try & give racing a bash!
Up here there's a classics series run at Knockhill with a good showing from a group of racers running TR7 V8's.
We've got another FHC now and fancy getting it sorted & getting my license during 2013 with a view to entering in 2014.
There's various classes in the series depending on engine size - going down the V8 route puts the car in with the big boys & I'm going to guess a lot of cash is required to get a RV8 race engine to competetive levels.
I was thinking of going down the Sprint engine route but need to find out if it's eligible - I think around 20 Sprint cars were made but they never went into production. It would still put me in with some serious cars as there appears to be some pretty tasty Escorts in that class but I'm hoping it might be a bit cheaper.
Anyone got any comments or info on the cost of tunning up the sprint engine or any useful info on racing a TR7.
I'm going to head up to some of the races next season & chat to the guys running the TR7 V8's too as they seem like a good bunch.

Best of luck in your venture, I used to race in the cooper cup, I have a TR7V8 drop head and Willie Toy and Barry Riddle ( both TR7 V8 racers) were telling me to get it prepped and come back racing but my car has only about 230 BHP so I would need to spend a bit to make it competitive.
Hi there
Just been reading your forum message....it's willy toye from the tr8 squadron , I could save you lots and time and effort, I have a tr 7 sprint already race prepped , it has raced several times at knock hill , Barry riddle and olly Ross have both raced it, it's in my garage needing a couple of days tidy up and it's ready to go, we can help with that if required, rather see it out than sitting in my garage........not expensive!,,,
Spec is dolly sprint engine 185 bhp on 45s LSD ,cage coil overs four pots vented seat harness blah blah .you could be out racing instead of trying to build one.....
Or if your looking for something a bit beefy , I have a couple of tr8s Also for sale
Cheers
