Hi

Can anyone tell me the performance spec of a standard Spitfire 1500 mechanical fuel pump - need to know the max pressure and flow rates.

don't know the official flow rate but it will provide enough fuel for nearly any state of tune for a 1500,it should be around 2-2.5psi pressure as any higher risks blowing open the float chamber needle valves.

If you are just changing the carbs from SUs to Dellortos the fuel pump should be fine. Regardless of the name on the side they all rely on float chambers to hold a head of fuel and air pressure to pull the fuel in to the airflow going in to the engine.

Twin Dellortos with no other mods won't really help and will only give you appalling fuel consumption. Gas flow the head, big valves, skim 20-30 thou off it, and a good extractor exhaust system will make the world of difference. Balance the crank/flywheel combination, and ensure conrods and pistons are all the same weight, and you will be surprised at the smoothness of this longstroke engine, Don't over-cam it though, the 1500 will never be a high revving engine. Once you've done all that, then fit your twin Dellortos with a decent Facet fuel pump set between 6-8psi. You should be looking at a reliable and driveable 105 to 110 bhp with that spec.
