2500 engine problems / sought

I've got my Triumph 2.5 in bits, from a TVR 2500 M. Just been told by the engineering firm that the crank shaft is too far gone, also needs a re-bore and the head needs rebuilding. So, I find myself wondering has anyone out there got an engine for sale? It's not running the original engine, its an MM so should be that someone has dropped a 2500 saloon engine in there....

don't quote me on it but i think the later 2500 engines had the long back crank with corresponding f/wheel,probably for extra refinement and maybe auto g/boxes.you have to use the correct f/wheel with the appropriate crank otherwise there will be clutch issues.for a bit more pep a shortback with a moderatly lightened gt6 fly wheel is ok unless you want to weigh out on a steel billet or ally one
May be a bit late now but:
The long back crank was used in TR5, possibly earlier TR6s and Mk1 2.5 PI. The tail of the crank, where the flywheel bolts on, is 1/2" longer than the short back crank.
Purpose was to allow a thinner, (lighter) flywheel and still place the friction surface in the same place as the thicker, heavier flywheel.
Bottom line is that you can use either, provided you use the correct matching flywheel.
I feel your pain as I also have a garage full of 2.5 engines (well 3 of them), all of which are poorly and in need of serious investment. My advice on the second-hand engine front would be don't, unless you can actually drive the donor car first (and not just up and down someones drive either) or it comes with an endorsement from someone you trust, who does know where it came from and how good it is.
