DIY Wheel refurb advise

I have bought some second-hand alloys for the TIV. They look to be straight and have no cracks but the finish is pretty dire, especially round the rims, and a couple have small dings in the rims - these are on the face side so are cosmetic really - I can't see that they would interfere in getting a good seal on the tyre. I'd like to have a go at refurbing them myself - well as much as I can.

Discussion points are:-
methods to remove the finish on there now - sand it off, chemical treatment, sand/bead blast?
any ideas for filling the dings - ally weld, some kind of metal filler? then file back to smooth
plastic-coat or paint or polished ally?

In the past I polished the ally wheels on my bike and they looked great and were actually easier to keep clean than the plastic coating on them originally ( probably coz the ally was shinier and harder for crap to stick to?)

Sand paper then use normal body filler and sand down then primer and top coat.

Nice colour... What is it, is a satin based grey or black?
Very tasty in dead. Do the refurb your self and then you will learn what self satisfaction tuat i did that on my car when some one turns round and says nice wheels
